Ok,so I've had a dyndns host setup for a while, but I mostly work from within government networks and dyn services are blocked. I decided on 'fixing' this by purchasing a domain name so that I could point that domain in much the same way my as my http://host.dyn.com redirect works. So anyways, I bought meself a domain name, now how do I point it to my dyn host? Another issue is that of port 80 being blocked. Right now I have my http server running behind a different port, so now I access my home network services by going to http://host.dyndns.com:port#. I'd much rather just use http://mydomainname.com to point directly, without having to put in the port number every time. How do I do that? Thanks so much for your responses. |

In order to use your domain, i.e. to point it to somewhere, you need a DNS hosting service like DynDNS Custom. This does not solve the issue with port 80 being blocked, because DNS is not related to ports, protocols, connectivity or speed and such; it just resolves names to IP addresses. As a workaround you can use a WebHop Redirect, now with a DynDNS hostname, but also in conjunction with your own domain then (as soon as you got a DNS hosting service). |
