General DNS & Domains Dyn Email Update Clients Dyn Developer

Hi,

I have successfully configured my linksys router and have also forwarded the port 3389 for remote desktop connection. I can also connect to my router interface remotely but cant use MSTSC to log into my home system.

Help will be much appreciated.

Thanks!

For troubleshooting work through this guide.

There can be several reasons for not working like you didn't activate/start Windows desktop on the PC you want to reach from outside (so try from inside first), you didn't configure port forwarding right, your ISP blocks inbound port 3389, your DynDNS hostname is not updated with the correct IP address information, you don't have a public IP address, and some more...

If you stop at some point, come back to expand your message with the specific details.

Another one to look for is your windows firewall settings. I found I could connect from inside but not outside, and it turned out that my firewall wasn't allowing public access to remote desktop

Hi, switch off your router interface. e.g. disallow management from the internet this functionality takes your call first, so that remote desktop is not available. if you want to manage your router, connect to your pc via rdp an then connect to your router via private ip.

That could apply if remote desktop uses the same port as the router's admin interface. This is almost certainly not the case in this scenario. RDP uses port 3389, most routers use 80 or 8080.

The easy way to bypass your firewall is use DMZ under firewall. Just write down there your PC ip and there you go....:) You would be able to access PC from outside. This will surely save you by port forwarding and triggering but your PC may have any serious threat anytime.

Using the DMZ is not recommended.
