General DNS & Domains Dyn Email Update Clients Dyn Developer

I'm using a Linksys WRT54G v8 router with firmware 8.00.7.

Under "Setup --> DDNS" I enter my Username and Password that I log into my http://DynDNS.com account. For some reason, beside the "status:" of the DDNS settings on the router the error "Authorization fails (username or passwords)" shows up in red after saving. The strange thing is that the IP address that is shown at the right of "IP internet address" is the correct public IP address. I can ping my http://DynDNS.com host name and it comes up with the correct IP address, I can tracert and whois, (from phone and remote computer), and both come up with the same address. I cannot connect to my home network remotely and was wondering if there is something amiss in my setup or could Comcast possibly be blocking http://DynDNS.com updates? I can VNC into my computer through the local network, but am wanting to be able to do the same thing while remote.

Thank you in advance for any tips, help, suggestions, and kindness.

First we need to determine if this is a problem with a DDNS updater, or a connectivity/firewall/forwarding issue.

I have to answer your question with new questions.

Are you able to connect successfully from a remote computer if you use the public IP address (not the hostname)? If not, then DDNS is not the problem. Have you set up port forwarding?

If you can successfully connect using the IP, but it does not work when using the hostname, then your hostname does not have the correct IP.

The update error on your Linksys could have several explanations. First of all, it is possible that the Linksys does not support all characters. If your password contains special symbols or international characters, you could try changing the password temporarily to something with only a-z, A-Z and 0-9 (English characters), just to rule that out. It is also possible that Comcast is blocking DynDNS for some reason. If you try running the following commands in a command window, what results do you see?

nslookup http://members.dyndns.org

and

ping http://members.dyndns.org
