General DNS & Domains Dyn Email Update Clients Dyn Developer

I have read the wiki on this issue - so please do not refer me to the same link. I am trying to remotely access an IP Camera that works locally (inside my house) through the camera's gui.

Here's what I have done:

  • I have established a DNS name (i.e http://myDynDNs.com)
  • I have portforwarded my Linksys router to 8080 with address of 192.168.1.199. Not sure if I need to hard code this number in the router software.
  • The camera has been configured to utilize DHCP or a static address. For this example, let's say we are using DHCP
  • I am able to do a DNS lookup and get the following: http://myDYnDNS.com. 60 IN A 11.22.33.44

I am also unable to ping my domain from various locations.

Any help would be appreciated.

1 Answer:

As you've worked through the wiki you'll be able to confirm:

  1. That it works from your LAN
  2. You don't have an ADSL modem or another router
  3. Your router has the real WAN IP that isn't in the RFC1918 ranges
  4. You've checked the manual for your camera to see what ports it uses
  5. You use port 8080 to connect to the camera on the LAN
  6. The Open Port tool shows port 8080 as open
