General DNS & Domains Dyn Email Update Clients Dyn Developer

We've just ordered a SSL certificate from GoDaddy. Unfortunately, they can only accept the request though an email verification to the administrative email in the WHOIS record of the domain. What they get is the hostmaster@dyndns.org and they've sent the verification email over to that address. They don't accept our alternative email address provided.

I would like to know:

  1. Would it be possible if DynDNS forwards that email to us?
  2. Would DynDNS change the WHOIS record of our dynamic hostname (the administrative email) for us?
  3. If not, does that mean it is a must for us to buy the SSL certificate service from DynDNS?
  4. We have a registered domain name that needs to be registered under a dynamic IP, does that mean we should apply for the Custom DNS service?

Thanks, Jeff

1 Answer:
  1. I doubt it
  2. No - because you're using the free service
  3. No - to purchase an SSL certificate you must be using your own domain name, not one of the Dynamic DNS domains (either free or Pro)
  4. Yes, assuming you're referring to a purchased domain name and not one of the Dynamic DNS hostnames

Thanks. What if I park the purchased domain to DynDNS with the Custom DNS service? Will the WHOIS record of the purchased domain be modified, again, to hostmaster@dyndns.org? Or it will be left unmodified so that I can order the SSL cert from other vendors as well? Thanks again

What matters is what is in the domain registration, your use of DNS Custom has nothing to do with that. Simply ensure that your domain registration has an address that you control. Then move your DNS hosting to use DNS Custom and update your hostnames in your own domain instead of the free Dynamic DNS hostname.
