General DNS & Domains Dyn Email Update Clients Dyn Developer

I have registered for the Custom DNS service and have set my subdomain http://home.mydomain.sg to use the nameservers http://ns1.mydyndns.org to http://ns5.mydyndns.org. Note that the top-level domain is "sg".

I think everything should be in order. I used http://dnscog.com to check that subdomain and it passed all tests (with a few warnings).

However, each time my client does an update due to an IP change, the Custom DNS status page shows that the A-record has been changed to the new IP. But when I try to ping the subdomain, it is still assigned to the old IP. I flushed my DNS, contacted some of my friends who are on different ISPs than me, but they all told me that the IP is still the old one. I have to contact my domain provider and request them to change the IP, which beats the purpose of having the Custom DNS service in the first place.

How can I resolve this?

This has been resolved with my domain register.

They have an A-record for that subdomain in their DNS zone file. Once they removed that, the IP is resolving correctly to the one shown on the Custom DNS page.

It sounds like you haven't delegated your domain to Custom DNS and that the domain registration still has the DNS servers for your domain provider listed. Contact your domain provider and ensure that it is correctly delegated to DynDNS.

Can you provide your real domain so we can check it elsewhere? I'm guessing that DynDNS's servers are showing it as being delegated to them since you activated DNS Custom.

I have followed the steps listed on this page (http://www.dyndns.com/support/kb/using_custom_dns_with_subdomains.html) to delegate the subdomain. I used DNSCog to perform a DNS Lookup and the result shows that the nameservers have been set up correctly:

;; AUTHORITY SECTION: http://home.mydomain.sg. 14400 IN NS http://ns2.mydyndns.org. http://home.mydomain.sg. 14400 IN NS http://ns1.mydyndns.org. http://home.mydomain.sg. 14400 IN NS http://ns5.mydyndns.org. http://home.mydomain.sg. 14400 IN NS http://ns4.mydyndns.org. http://home.mydomain.sg. 14400 IN NS http://ns3.mydyndns.org.

Is there anything else that needs to be done besides adding the nameservers?

Oops, sorry for the jumbled mess above. New lines not showing properly, it seems.
