General DNS & Domains Dyn Email Update Clients Dyn Developer

I purchased a domain name here at dyndns, however, i read later somewhere that dyndns is not hosting websites. Went to a hosting site, and they told me that the domain needs to be transferred. How is this done ??

I am trying to wise up on all these hosting and dns deals, with variable success.

Should I delete the domain, and start with a hosting site, or should I transfer ?

1 Answer:

In order to host a website you need three things:

  1. Domain registration
  2. DNS hosting for this domain
  3. Web space for the content

Therefore you must find out if you also got DNS hosting with that webhosting provider. If yes, you must configure your domain here to point its nameserver records to the nameservers of this provider. This is known as delegation. If they don't have DNS hosting, you must purchase a DNS hosting service like DynDNS Custom. And you are wrong, DynDNS offers web hosting as well; this would be Spring Server VPS.

Alternatively, you can move with your domain from DynDNS to another registrar. This is known as the transfer process. They will provide you with a form, which you have to fill out, maybe online.
