Easy question :-) I installed a Windows Server 2008 on my server PC. I have installed DNS server. What now? All the tutorials shows how to do it but with static IP. I have created my own website I would like to host it with my own server.

Thank You

To install IIS 7 you don't need to download it. Go to Server Manager and add it as a role. Then create a free host name and download the update client. When you'll create your web site to the IIS, remember to add to bindings your free host name and forward your port (80) from router to your server's lan ip.

If the moderators will authorize it, I can provide you with more details for managing IIS.

You don't need a DNS server, you need a web server - in your case that's probably IIS.

Microsoft publish information on installing and configuring IIS. You'll also need to create your hostname (eg www.example.com) and configure some update client or device to update it.

All you'll need to do after that (other than create the content) is work through this guide on port forwarding and testing.

So I don't need to add DNS role in the server 2008 if I use custom DNS? Just the IIS? I have forwarded the port already. So what is DNS server for ?
