General DNS & Domains Dyn Email Update Clients Dyn Developer

Hi. I need to be able to programmatically add and remove subdomains on a domain that I do own to point to subdomains on a domain that I don't own. For example, let's say I own http://ownthis.com and I do not own http://donotownthis.net.

I need to be able to access an API to add, say:

d001.ownthis.com -> http://abc.donotownthis.net http://d002.ownthis.com -> http://def.donotownthis.net

At any given point there may be hundreds or even thousands of these subdomains mapped, and if this project is successful they will be being added and removed throughout the day.

DynDNS's custom DNS seems to only allow up to 75 DNS records per domain, so I don't think I can do this with DynDNS. I'm currently an EveryDNS user for some of my other domains, but I don't know enough about EveryDNS' offerings or DNS generally to know the best way to do this. I am using this for various ports in general, not http traffic specifically.

I'd love to hear any ideas anyone may have on the best way to go about this.

Thanks, - Andrew.

1 Answer:

The next step after DynDNS Custom is Dynect SMB. That will provide you with API access, but still not thousands of records. The next step after that is the enterprise Dynect platform. If you need more details, please contact their sales team.

I hadn't seen those other services, so thanks. We're still in startup mode, so $200+ per month is a cost we don't need to absorb. I'll probably just run my own domain server until that doesn't work any more, at which point the expenditure will be justified.
