General DNS & Domains Dyn Email Update Clients Dyn Developer

I have a Comcast home cable connection... Linksys WRT45GS... 3 laptops... 1 desktop... Wii... Xbox360... PS3. The only computer I want to do RDP on is my laptop which is running XP Pro MediaCenter Edition. I followed all the directions on the site... created the DYNDNS thing... gave my laptop a static internal IP... everything worked great for a day... now I can only connect from inside the network.

While trying to troubleshoot on my own, I probably messed something else up along the way. What should I do?

Originator hasn't revisited in a month, closing to stop the forum bot auto bumping.

The obvious question is - what changed?

Have you installed and configured an update client or configured your router to update your hostname? Does the laptop still have the same (static) IP? Is the software firewall still allowing access on 3389/TCP from outside the LAN?

So, something has to have changed. Either your ISP has started blocking port 3389/TCP, your router's port forwarding is no longer set up, the IP of your laptop has changed or the firewall settings on your laptop has changed.

Yes to all of those... I think... gonna double check again in a bit.

Does it work if you use the current WAN IP address?

If you mean the actual external IP, instead of the DynDNS domain, yes... neither one works... I feel like there's just like one little checkbox somewhere that did or didn't get checked... the weird thing is that I don't think I had changed anything when it stopped working.

If neither works then something has changed - though maybe at your ISP or the provider of your Droid phone.

Does it work from another home PC at somebody else's house?

Won't work from another remote computer either. Tried on an XP Home computer with Service pack 2. Droid can do it on the local network but not over internet. Haven't tried another computer on the local network yet, but pretty sure that will work.

Have you verified that the routers public IP is the same IP that you show on your http://dyndns.com account?
