General DNS & Domains Dyn Email Update Clients Dyn Developer

Hi, i need some help here, please.

I connect to the internet via a Zyxel Prestige 645R-A1, which connects to my Mac through a Airport Extreme (2nd rev.)

Below are the steps i did:

  1. The Zyxel has IP auto update to DynDNS, which i already configured.
  2. I also forwarded the ports (5500, 5800 and 5900) from the Zyxel to a static IP defined in the Airport (i assigned a DHCP reserve to give a static IP to my Mac).
  3. The IPv6 Firewall in the Airport is configured to allow IPsec authentication, and the same Ports listed above to forwarding to my Mac.
  4. he Mac has the "remote management" option on.

Am i doing something wrong? i just can't access my Mac not only from mi iPad, but from anywhere! ;__;

And can anybody tell me where do i define the "Secret" that the iOS built-in VPN asks me for?

I also have this MobileMe subscription which let me access the Disk attached to my Airport from the web. I never could make that work either.

I really really appreciate any help u can give me.

thanks :)

(BTW sorry for my english)

1 Answer:

It sounds like you're mixing up a VPN (secure tunnel) and VNC (remote console access). The 3 ports you list are all commonly used by VNC, yet your question refers to a VPN and you talk about IPsec (one of the VPN protocols).

Which are you trying to do - enable remote access or a secure tunnel?

If it's remote access then start here, you need to be able to connect to your Mac from another computer on the same LAN first. Once you've got that working ensure you've forwarded the ports first from the Airport Extreme to the MAC and then from the Zyxel to the WAN IP of the Airport Extreme (I assume your Zyxel is not in bridge mode).

If you need further help, please edit your question to provide more details. These should include:

  • The WAN IP shown on the management page of your Airport Extreme
  • The WAN IP shown on the management page of your Zyxel
  • Your DynDNS hostname
  • Which you're trying to set up - VNC or a VPN
