Hello, i signed up to dyndns so that i could create a home vpn without having to get a static ip from my isp. I have now added internet guide to the same domain. I would like all my computers to make use of the internet guide would it be best to input the dyndns infomation in to my router so all computers on the network use the internet guide? i assume i will still be able to access my vpn if i do that. if i want to use the custom defence policy on my laptop on different networks i assume i will need to create another domain? otherwise the dyndns will get confused trying to update the ip address in different locations and i wont be able to use my vpn. |

Yes, configure the Internet Guide on the router to cover your network as a whole, and point all devices' DNS to your router, if your router can serve as DNS server and forwarder. This can normally achieved by "obtain DNS server addresses automatically" via DHCP. You still can use your VPN, because this is incoming, whereas DNS configuration is for outgoing. However, it is recommended to change the error behavior in the advanced settings of your defense plan from "show landing page" to "NXDOMAIN response", else you may break local name resolution, or name resolution via VPN. Do not use Internet Guide on roaming devices outside your network. Internet Guide is for networks, your networks, not for your devices in other networks. It may well be that other networks prevent you from using 3rd party DNS services at all, so you would have no DNS looking like no internet connection... |

If you already have a DynDNS hostname that resolves to your network then:
You are correct that you'll need another hostname for the laptop if it is mobile. Just be aware that if you take it somewhere that also uses the Internet Guide then there is no way of knowing which defence plan will be used. |
