General DNS & Domains Dyn Email Update Clients Dyn Developer

Hello, i have the ip address of my website from my hosting provider. Where do I put that in my account so my domain name that I purchased through dyndns resolves to it.?

Sorry, completely non technical user.

Thanks for your patience. I did spend 10 minutes in my account to try to figure it out. And I did search so.....

Thanks.

A word of caution:
If you already have a different domain name associated with the website you have with your hosting provider, and it is a shared hosting service, then make sure your hosting provider isn't doing name based site matching (multiple sites hosted on the same IP address). Otherwise it probably won't work if you create a new A or CNAME record in your new domain to point to their web server. Your best choice then would be to create a WebHop.

I have not registered domains with DynDNS, but I believe that you need a Custom DNS account to do this. This is what I used when moving a domain from one hosting site to another. We choose to use DynDNS for the domain name serving. On the Account page, you would add a Zone. You would select Custom DNS as the service and leave the radio button checked that the domain is already registered. You do need to fill in the domain name. Check any other services you want DynDNS to provide. Continue and you will be able to enter the IP address.

Assuming you have Custom DNS then start here and select Custom DNS. If you don't already have an entry for www.example.com then select Add Hostname, put www in the Hostname box, the IP address in the IP Address box and select Create Host.

If you do already have an entry for www.example.com then simply click the hostname and change the IP.

You may also want to do the same with example.com, except put nothing in the Hostname box. That way visiting your site will work for those who use www.example.com and those who just use example.com.
