Sounds like a problem with your unspecified CCTV device. I'd suggest you ask, stating the make, model and revision of your CCTV, on a CCTV specific forum.

Yes, in as much as it's interface may be written such as it only works on Windows.

if it helps the device is unbranded simple security http://device.is there something i have to download to view such things on a mac? my brother had to download another version of jave to view it on his pc and it worked after that. I´m not much good with computers so any advice would be appreciated?

Try installing Java on your Mac, if that doesn't work post, on a CCTV forum, as much identifying information about the CCTV as you can find. If you try a CCTV forum you're far, far, more likely to find people who've used your CCTV unit and may know how to get it working with a Mac.

I have faced similar problems on my macbook too. the problem is not with java, but with activex which does not work on mac OS. If anybody knows how to install /activate activex on mac OS, that will help greatly
