DynDNS name resolves to the correct address. Different results from accessing your web server by IP address and URL suggests a possible error in virtual server configuration on the web server.

but the websever is automatically set up by windows server? and if the ip address is the same as the web address. you would think that it would grab the same details. same authentication? or am i missing something? – Fish Photography 2 hours ago

As Cry Havoc has said it is an expectation of modern web servers to react differently depending on how it is addressed, literally!

For instance in my case my web server has a DynDNS name of http://myname.webhop.org and by using different prefixes, ww1, ww2, etc. each prefix directs the web server to different pages. The web server parses the complete URL looking for a match in the web server configuration file, ww1.myname.webhop.org, ww2.mtname.webhop.org, etc. and displays the appropriate page. If a match is not found then the default server page is displayed.

I have no practical experience of IIS, my web servers are Apache on both Linux and Windows, so cannot comment specifically. As the DynDNS element of your setup appears to be working exactly as it should can I suggest recourse to the IIS documentation, hard copy or web, and/or an IIS specific forum, which should be of more direct assistance in resolving your issue.

Are you remembering to add the / to the URL with the hostname? The URLs http://fishphoto-dyndns-server-com/exchange and http://fishphoto-dyndns-server-com/exchange/ are not the same.

Does IIS know to treat the hostname and the IP the same? This isn't necessarily going to happen automatically - modern web servers expect that you want it to respond differently depending on how you connect to it.

thanks i fixed it :).
