I set up my dns host server and i can connect to it with my ip and the ip my linksys routers gives me. Heres where is gets tricky...Im using a linksys router to connect to the internet...i dont use that ip to visit the server, I use the ip my modem gives me. For some reason when others attempt to connect to the server with the same ip im using it does not work. My ip is 192.168.1.50(static)...and also the ip im given by my modem. I set up a static ip with my router and followed all instructions. I cant find out why people outside my network cannot connect to my server. |

Have you read this post? The IP you've posted will only work on your local network (LAN). For others they need to use the WAN IP of your modem, which is what your Dynamic DNS host should be updated with. Note too that if you're using both a modem and a router to route traffic then you'll need to forward 80/TCP (or your chosen port) from the modem to the router's WAN interface IP address and then from the router to your web server (192.168.1.50). Thx for the help...i should have added I already forwarded port 80 and i can access the server on my LAN. I went to a website that shows me my modems ip....is that the same as WAN interface ip? Im not sure how to forward from a modem to a router. I have only forwarded ports on my routers admin page.

"If your router has a WAN IP address that looks like 10.x.x.x, 192.168.x.x or 172.16.x.x to 172.31.x.x then you have what is known as an RFC1918 IP address. You will need to contact your ISP to find out how to get a public IP address, or have traffic routed to you." I just saw this part of the post you linked....My router does start with 192.168...I should call my ISP for this? I thought my linksys router has nothing to do with my ISP. Could someone clear this up for me.

Sorry - comment notifications are not reliable. Check the WAN IP of your router. Do you also have a DSL modem?
